at 10:00 a.m. If you wish to drive yourself, meet us at 10:30 at the

there to Quayside, then up Palafox to more galleries and then choose a place
for lunch together.
PROFILE
One of our newest members, Bea Hummel,
creates with needle and thread, fabric, yarn – all kinds of fiber! A native of
Washington D.C. and the wife of a retired Professional Golfer, she has two
sons, one of whom is deployed in Iraq at the present time. A member of the
American Sewing Guild, she was runner-up in 2008 for their "Most
Interesting Wardrobe" category. Of hundreds of entries, that is quite an
accomplishment. She and her husband Terry have been here a little over five
years and ABSOLUTELY everything inspires her creativity.
Make sure you introduce yourself to Bea
at upcoming meetings.
August "Workshop"
Creating with Masa paper. Masa is called rice paper but it is not made of
rice. It is rough on one side and smooth on the other; it is wetted, crushed
and then glued on a thick paper. The resulting painting looks like batik.. I
will provide the Masa paper; you need to bring whatever water media you wish to
use (watercolor, gouche, water-soluble oils), your own brushes, glue and a
piece of 65# or heavier paper at least 10x10 or 140# watercolor paper. There is
no supply charge for this workshop
Announcements:
Our vice-president, Linda, is working
hard on lining up a panoply of artists for this year’s workshops. September
will feature "Viking knitting" which is wire weaving for necklaces
(you have seen it but didn’t know that is what it is called); October is
polymer clay and November is abstracts on foil. They all sound like they are
going to stretch us beyond our usual art activities.
Our "Artists’ Fleamarket" the
first week-end of October has been approved for the SS Dixon playground on US
90 so start collecting "stuff" that would help us raise money for our
teacher grants (Benefactor’s Program).
